About this tool
An EditorConfig file is an INI-like list of sections. root = true in the preamble tells a core to stop looking in parent directories. Every other key has to sit under a section, or it does nothing. [*] matches every file. A later section wins when both match.
indent_style is space or tab. indent_sizeis a positive whole number, or the word tab. tab_width defaults to indent_size, so this page leaves it out when the two numbers are the same.end_of_line is lf, crlf, or cr.charset is one of latin1, utf-8, utf-8-bom,utf-16be, and utf-16le. The spec discourages utf-8-bom.
The Markdown section turns trailing-space trimming off, because two spaces at the end of a line are a hard line break. The Makefile section sets tabs, because Make treats a recipe that starts with spaces as a syntax error. spelling_language is enor en-US, two letters, or two letters, a hyphen, and two letters.
