Broadcast Keep saves live YouTube streams as local MP4 files. Paste a livestream URL, choose where to save it, and follow the recording in a native Mac window.
You can record from the current point or catch up from the available beginning. When you stop, the app merges and verifies the final recording, then lets you reveal it in Finder.
Choose where to start
Current-point mode records what is playing now. From-beginning mode asks for the earlier part that YouTube still makes available, then catches up toward the live stream.
The window shows download progress, captured media time, catch-up status, and errors. You can cancel or retry a recording. When a recording is interrupted, the app keeps the usable media and checks the output before reporting success.
If a stream requires a signed-in YouTube session, choose the browser you already use for YouTube. Broadcast Keep asks yt-dlp to read that browser’s local session. The app does not store cookie values.
Record only streams you own or are authorized to save. The app does not grant permission to copy someone else’s broadcast.
What runs on your Mac
The interface is SwiftUI. The recording engine coordinates yt-dlp, FFmpeg, ffprobe, and Deno through separate process arguments. FFmpeg merges or remuxes the recorded media, and ffprobe checks its duration and output.
There is no backend, account system, or analytics service. Recording mode, destination, and browser choice are saved locally. Your recordings stay in the folder you choose.
Install the recording tools
Broadcast Keep requires macOS 14 or later. The Mac download runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Install Homebrew and these tools before recording:
brew install yt-dlp ffmpeg deno
FFmpeg includes ffprobe. Keep the tools current, because YouTube extraction changes over time.
What you get
Broadcast Keep costs $20 including tax, paid once. You get the signed Mac app and the full MIT-licensed Swift source code. There is no subscription.
The repository includes the Xcode project, recording services, unit tests, tool-assisted media tests, and documentation for setup, architecture, security, distribution, and customization. AGENTS.md gives coding agents the project rules and boundaries.
You can change the recording workflow, add quality or audio-only controls, or use the process engine as a starting point for another interface. A Windows or Linux version requires a port; this download is the native Mac application.
Download and updates
After buying, connect your GitHub account in Polar and accept the invitation to the private repository. Download the Mac app from Releases, unzip it, and drag Broadcast Keep to your Applications folder.
The Mac app is signed with my Apple Developer ID and has a stapled Apple notarization ticket. Download later versions manually from the private repository’s Releases page and replace your installed copy.
To build your own version, open StreamRecorder.xcodeproj in Xcode 16 or later and run the StreamRecorder scheme. The README includes command-line build and test instructions. Your local build does not require my signing credentials.
