What you install

Couch Snake is an Apple TV game supplied as source code and an Xcode project. It is not an App Store download, and Apple TV cannot install the source ZIP directly.

You need a Mac with Xcode 26, an Apple TV running tvOS 18 or later, and an Apple account suitable for signing the app. Use your own signing team. Xcode shows any signing or provisioning requirements for your account and device.

After purchasing, connect GitHub in Polar and accept the repository invitation. Download the source archive from the private Couch Snake releases, then unzip it.

Install on your Apple TV

  1. Put the Mac and Apple TV on the same network.
  2. On Apple TV, open Settings → Remotes and Devices → Remote App and Devices.
  3. In Xcode, open Window → Devices and Simulators and pair the Apple TV using the code on the television.
  4. Open Snake.xcodeproj from the downloaded source.
  5. Select the Snake scheme and your Apple TV as the destination.
  6. Under Signing & Capabilities, choose your own team.
  7. Press Command-R to build and run.

If Xcode reports a signing problem, resolve it there before trying again. Signing can expire; when your installed copy needs reprovisioning, build and run it from Xcode again.

You can also try the game in an Apple TV simulator on the Mac. Choose a simulator instead of the physical Apple TV. The arrow keys steer and Return acts as a click.

Play a first game

Swipe on the Siri Remote to start moving. Swipe up, down, left or right to turn. Clicking the edges of newer clickpads also changes direction.

Aim for the food. Each piece makes the snake one segment longer. The snake keeps the same speed throughout a game, so the challenge comes from finding room as its body grows.

Walls wrap: leave through the right edge and you return from the left. You lose when the snake bites itself. Two quick swipes can queue two turns, so allow enough space before trying a tight U-turn.

Click after game over to start again. A new game rotates to another pastel screen color.

Remote controls

Leaving the app pauses the game. Return to it and resume when ready.

Play with several people

Press Play/Pause between games to open the players screen. Choose Add a player, enter a name such as Maya, and select that player before starting.

Each player has a separate best score. The player’s name appears above the board, and HI shows that player’s best. The scoreboard ranks players by their best scores.

Click a player’s name to use it. Hold a name to delete that player. This removes the local profile and its stored score, so take care when several people share the television.

Scores and updates

Player profiles and scores are saved locally on the Apple TV. They are not a cloud leaderboard or a cross-device account. Treat deleting the app or its data as a risk to those local scores.

For an update, download the newer source from the private repository. Open its Xcode project, use your team and the same target Apple TV, then build and run. The source release includes the project needed to install the game; no paid game subscription is involved.
